Lynching were well into a decline by the 50s. I would think that was a quite
positive direction.

The house committee had it's blacklist in 1947.
The era certainly did happen. Gas was cheap. Guys really did want '57
chevys. Woodstock did happen, so did the Korean war.
Maybe all the nice things didn't happen to everyone, but we do remember the
media events of the time.

I too would love to think that the Cuban Missile crisis, Korea, Vietnam, the
assassinations et al, only existed on the Ozzie & Harriet soundstage. But
they were real.

Yeah, you can see that his experience of the 60's was from the vantage point
of Eastern WA; had he ventured farther east as I did at the time, he might
have seen a different view of the 60's, might have had a deeper
understanding
of some of the events he mentions in passing, why the "Age of Aquarius" was
a
popular tune, but an abyssmal reading of the times (he says with 20/20
hindsight). Looking at this and the site Ed mentioned, they seem to portray
someone who is longing for a past that did not exist at the time. Or if it
did exist, it only existed on the Ozzie & Harriet soundstage. Funny that he
doesn't mention the House UnAmerican Activities Committee or lynchings or
...
