I don't know about the plot thickening, but I have found that
rutabagas makes an excellent, long lasting environmentally inert
building material once you are able to shape it. I have followed
with great interest the Rutabaga Institute's program of growing
rectangular "Baga Building Blocks" (tm), commonly known in the trade
as "Slops". Why the nickname? I don't know, the 'baga builders are
a curious lot, indeed. We have been considering an addition to our
home and definitely will consider "Sloppy" construction because it is
sound-proof, vermin proof, heat insulator, and practically
indestructible. The downside is that the Slops are impervious to
most drills, saws, nails and steel tools, they must be attached with
a special "Plot" adhesive only available from the Institute. Besides
the expense, you must be very careful about cleanliness. Any
adhesive capable of bonding to a rutabaga will not release a grip on
any other item. Fortunately the "Plot" adhesive becomes more viscous
as it cures, and it cures slowly. We have observed that the Sloppy
construction gets stronger as the adhesive cures, so we also wait for
the "Plot" to thicken.
