[Grovenet] reason to hope

In all the bad news recently I haven't heard much about the good news.
There are 2 things that should give us some basis to hope that things can get better.
First, when Bush was trying to look presidential and giving advice to the UN about Lebanon, he said that one of the most important things they needed to do was to avoid a power vacuum in southern Lebanon once a cease fire was reached. Besides being comical coming from him, it was a very hopeful statement because it shows that if he screws things up bad enough he can learn the basics from his mistakes.
Second, in this whole liquid bomb incident people have been pretty silent about the fact that one of the major tips came from Pakistan, even though Pakistan is the same country where the bombers went to get terrorist training. Has anybody noticed that Pakistan is a country that harbors and trains terrorists which would make it a prime target for us to go in and 'bring them democracy at the end of a gun' yet, because we needed them strategically for our Afganistan trip we have postponed bombing the bejezus out of them. This has left us in the somewhat delightful position that makes one want to say, "Hey, here is a country that we could have bombed but did not, and lo and behold a country that we did not bomb is helping us catch terrorists who would like to drop civilian planes out of the skies. Maybe there is a connection between the two."

So if we combine those two things a) Bush can learn things and b) countries that we do not bomb are sometimes willing to help us, maybe Bush can put two and two together and learn that when he pulls a tool out of his presidential tool bag, not using a bomb is sometimes just as effective as using a big bomb.

I will have to wait and see if the lesson sticks but it gives me reason to hope.....
