Forest Grove Community School Development Officer Position
The Forest Grove Community School (FGCS) is being developed as an
innovative
community centered school that links a place-based, experiential
learning
curriculum to an environmental studies theme. In order for the FGCS to
deliver its mission, a strategic development plan needs to be created to
help augment the school district funds. With this in mind, FGCS seeks
someone with expertise in organizational development, fundraising, or
development work to initiate the creation and implementation of an
integrated fundraising strategy for the school. To simplify this
development
process, we have broken the work into two phases that are related to the
funding provided by the Charter School Incentive Grant. The first phase
focuses on designing an integrated and strategic development plan for
the
school. Below is an outline of the timeline, monies allocated, and tasks
assigned for this FIRST fundraising phase. The second phase is allocated
as
a part time position with a projected salary at $22, 500.
Phase 1 September 06-March 07
$5,000.00 allocated for contracted and support services, development
materials etc.

* Brainstorm with Board members and others on an overall development
strategy
* Develop a variety of funding sources to create diversity for the plan

The Forest Grove Community School’s mission statement is:
We believe that each of us has the ability and the responsibility to use
our
unique gifts and talents to contribute to our communities. To foster
the
development of these attributes, FGCS will provide a learning
environment
based on the development of mutually beneficial connections among
school,
family, and environment so that, upon graduation, students can take
their
places as engaged citizens in a changing world. This dynamic learning
environment will challenge students to achieve their highest academic
potential through hands-on learning rooted in their community.
Students at FGCS will experience:
● A rich curriculum that integrates reading, math, writing,
science,
social studies, arts and music into hands-on activities and projects.
● Outdoor learning, including school gardens and projects that
promote
sustainable living.
● Community involvement that encourages a sense of mutual respect
and
responsibility between students and the wider community.
● Mixed-age classrooms that respond to different learning styles.
● Opportunities to apply academic skills to real-world problems
through
projects that make a difference in their world.
