[Grovenet] Memories . . . . .

Ha, ha!!

One of those unforgettable moments that we collect through a lifetime came
to me as at Hewlett-Packard some years ago. I was at some luncheon function
with several co-workers, one of them a very talented female graphics
designer who worked in my department. Somehow the subject of JFK's
assassination came up and Jill, the designer, looked at me and asked, "What
were you doing when you heard about the assassination?"

I told the story of how we heard of it where I was working at the Sylvania
Electronic Defense Laboratories and how the facility was shut down for the
day, etc. Then I asked Jill what she had been doing and she replied, "Oh. I
was in the 3rd grade and our teacher told us to put our heads down on our
desks for a few minutes because the President had been killed..."

It's moments like that that a guy suddenly feels o-l-d.

Tom,
Thanks for the insight on Ricky Nelson's career--it's funny how one
song can impact your image of a performer. Yeah, I suppose 'Garden Party' is

a good song, though (IMHO) still a little goofy.
You 'old-timers' (I was an infant when JFK was shot) have inspired me to

browse the web about the Nelson television family. I didn't know Ricky was
married to Mark Harmon's sister....
