Lena, I sympathize with you and wish I could offer help.  But I hope no one recommends to donate the National Geographics to the Gaston Library.  Sorry, but we have more than we can handle now.  All too often libraries don't accept National Geographics as there are too many around.  
When we moved from Virginia nearly 10 years ago, after living there for 20 years, I went to the recycling bin an tossed away our collection from 1959 when we got married.  I cried the whole time!  Some teachers or maybe scout troups that would be looking for pictures for crafts or reports could use them, but hard to find on short notice!
