Joy, as someone who has lived equally in the South and in the NW,
I'd need to know exactly what Robert means by "bubbaville."  I tend
not to agree with what he says, that "no place is unlivable" in the NW;
it smacks of the very thing a non-native may not like about the NW,
a kind of snobbish blindness to anything being wrong with the NW
at all!  ;-)

So, you can see there's only so far advice from folks you don't
know can take you -- we don't all agree!  On the other hand, it gives
you plenty of food for thought ...
