And of course Forest Grove has both, namely Pacific University and the
Advanced Rutabaga Studies Institute.
If I remember correctly (which is never guaranteed!), Joy also mentioned an
interest in writing. Pacific has a relatively new MFA in Writing program
with an excellent faculty. It brings many well-known writers to Forest
Grove during the year. The Portland metro area has a lot of resources for
writers, including the Oregon Mountain Writers programs, the Attic Writer's
Workshop, numerous journals of fiction and nonfiction, the excellent guest
lectures at Powell's and other bookstores, the Portland Arts & Lectures
series and many informal groups for writers. And open mike readings at
several Portland taverns. No doubt I'm overlooking a few things, but this
area has a large and thriving writing community.
