For father's day we went to see An Inconvenient
Truth, and, no surprise to this list, I loved it.
It does a wonderful job of telling the story, and
you even leave encouraged that humanity still has
time to respond.
The sad thing for me is that the people who most
need to see it will not. My sister in law is a
case in point. She hears "Al Gore" and wants
nothing to do with this movie. Her politics
center on abortion, gay marriage, the flag and
patriotism. She loves Bush and all he's done. The
lies the Bush Administration tells about global
warming are good enough for her, and I expect it
is the same for people here on this list as well
who voted for Bush and have their needs met with
his "leadership". Tom, Lena, Robert, the two
Stevens, my guess is that they would never ever
consider seeing such a movie. (Correct me if I'm
wrong! If you have or are going to see the movie,
I owe you a humble apology, and I'll serve it up,
too.)
It saddens me we are so polarized as a nation. It
used to be we could be served by science, that it
was seen as apolitical, serving all humanity and
all sides. Not any more. Science is now attacked
and discredited (in this case by the oil industry
and Detroit). Rather than gathering facts and
coming to conclusions based on those facts and
observations, some now come to conclusions and
gather facts to support those conclusions.
Amazing.
It's a very good movie and the whole world needs
to see it. There were eight people in our showing
at 2:25PM this afternoon.
