[Grovenet] wall mart and 911

And that brand new shopping mall west of Fred
Meyer's still looks totally empty. Who wants to
compete with Walmart? That's a huge investment to
own and pay for if it sits vacant! 

Personally, I think this change is going to send
Hanks (Grande Foods) reeling. Certainly there is
a large Latino segment among us, and they
patronize Hanks now, but will Tom Evans and the
Hering family be able to pull off the cultural
part of this? Of all the stores around, who
better addresses Washington County rural folks
needs better than Hanks? They buy locally, too.
Now they go Latino? That's a reach.

Maybe LUBA can stop WalMart. I feel strongly
WalMart will destroy our local family owned and
run business community, in addition to plugging
the road east and west.
