[Grovenet] A little vindication . . . .

Oh, yes, President Nixon was a fantastically competent diplomat. Evil people
are seldom unskilled or unintelligent. Sometimes they approach genius.
Sometimes, but certainly not always, as President G. W. Bush has aptly shown
us.

I think the Nixon pardon led to the G.W. Bush presidency because we - the
people of the USA - demonstrated that a President can do terrible things,
illegal things, and escape prosecution.

I supported the impeachment of President Clinton on the same grounds, and I
think he got exactly what he deserved as a result. But it'll take a lot more
than that to live down the Nixon pardon. I hope - and my representatives
will continue to hear from me on this issue - that Congress continues to
vigorously pursue the possibility of impeachment of the President. It
matters. Even if it was five or six years ago that he broke the law, if he
did he deserves a public accounting and penalty for it today.

Or next time may be far, far worse.

Nixon's time in the White House may have been the closest
thing we've had to an "imperial presidency" in modern times.
(Reagan is runner-up?) Pardoning him likely did contribute
     to a W.

Yet, Nixon's reign wasn't a total waste of a presidency. There
are positive things from that time (hey, he could speak to our
     "enemies") . . .

     I can't say the same for W.
