Hasn't that been a fundamental part of Christianity since its founding, that
this world is temporary and what happens here is of little consequence?
 
I think my grandparents - wonderfully devout Methodists - had about the best
balance I've seen among Christians. They believed without a doubt that this
world is temporary. Still, this world and everything in it is a gift from
God, and it is showing respect to God not to waste the things of the earth.

Actually, what's scarier about this statistic is that it explains a lot
about why some fundamentalists could care less about the environment since
they see the destruction of the world as part of the end times and, besides,
it's all going to be gone in 50 years anyway!!

The "Edge" in today's O notes that 5% of Americans (I'm assuming voting

age folks) don't know who the current president.
