That's very true Ed, unless all of our children and many of our sons and
daughters are IN that military! 

If there's a way to survive as a nation without a military, I'm all ears. 

Indeed, at the risk of sounding like a political heretic and traitor, I
wonder if it's possible to have any sense of "national sovereignty" in this
world and not have wars. Ergo, the thing that has to go is "national
sovereignty"...

Are there any other options?

And, if we had less military (dare I say NO 
military), we'd find better options for solving 
our problems. With a ready military, it is much 
too easy to use it. Right, Wrong, or Illegally!
We see today the truth of that!
