Not enough detail here.
The only guys who knew about it were R's and yes they did nothing about it.
But no D's were saving it for an October surprise. If any body was saving it
for an October surprise it was an R, and in that case the republicans have a
bigger problem with their own members than they do with their competition.
As for the guy who did it umpteen years ago and kept his office, you are
either leaving out the details on purpose or Rush forgot to mention them to
you.
Many years ago (not simultaneously but close in time) there were two other
cases of congress people who became involved with pages (male congress
person - female page). One was a D and one was an R. Neither the R's nor
the D's kicked their rep out of office immediately but both of the reps went
on to run for re-election. The R did not get re-elected but the D did. And
the D got re-elected for several more terms. Is this because D's are more
'tolerant of perverts'? No. It is because D's could look at facts and see
what was going on. The R's advances toward his page were unwanted so he got
booted out by voters, not his R leadership. The D and his page was a case of
two people who met who took a genuine interest in each other. They
continued dating and were together for at least 10 years after the initial
scandal, which helps people understand how he could get re-elected. Rush is
probably telling you that the R was dealt with and the D was not. But that
isn't the 'rest of the story'.
Now days both of the reps would probably be forced to resign immediately if
they were caught and not be allowed to run again. But we are living in
different times.
The really interesting thing is that the R's of today haven't learned their
lesson about what to do in a crisis. You are supposed to be honest, tell
people it was a mistake and say you're sorry. People are very forgiving and
you can get away with all kinds of stuff. You get in trouble when you lie
and say - it didn't happen, oh I mean I didn't know about it, oh I mean I
didn't know enough about it, oh I mean it was somebody else's
responsibility, oh I am sorry now that it has blown up in my face - it is
all the other party's fault.
Don't worry Steven. A new poll says that R voters don't really care if the
Florida rep was scum. They know that their own rep is squeaky clean and this
isn't changing any votes (except maybe in Florida).
