Thanks for all the welcoming words. To take some of the bai^H^H^H, er,
answer your questions;
We moved here because it seemed the most livable (for our definition of
same) place in the Metroplex when Steve got a job at Intel. Also, the
in-laws are close by, formerly Tualatin, now Wamic. I wanted our son to have
these early school years outside a huge urban area and Steve wanted a good
commute and I wanted to be close to the surf and we both like to ride
(motorcyles) on all the great backroads around here.
Moving here in an election year may have contributed to a higher-than-usual
level of culture shock for me. 2004 was...interesting, shall we say. On that
note, I shall refrain from discussing the relative merits of the two health
care systems until one of the following happens: the discussion goes
off-list with an interested/reasonable subset of subscribers, or, I take the
political temperature of the list well enough to avoid the inevitable flame
mines lurking here. And while I might be considered a small-l liberal by my
politically savvy Canadian friends, I suspect I may be tarred with a more
social democratic brush hereabouts. My heart truly lies somewhere in the
never-never land between anarchism and libertarianism; we all have our pipe
dreams, yeah?
Do I miss Canada? Well, yeah, but it's awfully nice here too.
Marguerite
p.s. for the record, I don't believe I am a cat 'owner'. Guardian, maybe,
but most days I feel rather like they own me than the other way round.
