Happened to watch a bit of TV news tonight. Unusual for me but ....

The report said that the National Guard units who have gone and returned
were required to take all their equipment with them but leave it in the
combat zone when they returned!

The total price tag of this equipment is close to 4 BILLION dollars!

What's worse, there's no replacements of kind when the troops return.

Oregon National Guard troops are now being equipped with gear from the
Korean War era that they will have to rely on.

Should the rest of us start driving cars we find in the junk yards from
1951, or watching TV's from 1951, or listening to radios from 1951? And
forget the PC - it wasn't invented for another 30 years!

If we did we'd know what our troops - those vaulted troops we pretend to
support - are facing. Only they aren't limited to seeing TV in black and
white. They may face life-and-death situations with their antique gear while
our enemies are equipped for the 21st century.
