[Grovenet] What is the proper Economic word for the condition of "economic cancer"?

As I set out to do graduate studies in plant physiology to help feed the 
world, one of my professors quickly pointed out that there has been plenty of 
food to go around for a long time, the issue is distribution, which is a 
question of economics. Kind of gives a different spin on the notion 
of "economic cancer," doesn't it ...
