Maybe not.  ( 2005 data)
13.4 non-occupant fatalities per 100,000 passenger vehicles
17.7 non-occupant fatalities per 100,000 LTV (light truck, Suv & van)

This doesn't say whether the passenger car drivers do a better job of  
avoiding pedestrians and bicycles, or if the contact is less fatal.

It also doesn't say if getting hit by Gore Jr's Prius would be less  
fatal than going hunting with Dick Cheney.

Exactly my point.  I am at greater risk, statistically, from idiots  
behind the wheel than from idiots carrying guns.  So why not describe  
both lethal objects as a "deadly weapon"?
