[Grovenet] Strange Numbers about Personal "Wealth"...

Steven asked:

can you complete the study? What is the percentage of democrats were not
able to balance their budget?

--------------------------------------------------

I was listening so I didn't write all the numbers down, but it was a
*smaller* percentage. 30% or 40% - something like that. I did a quick search
for his show archives but didn't find that one.

I was talking with a friend about this and musing over the most popular
Presidents we could recall in our lifetimes. Our list was FDR, Eisenhower,
Kennedy and Reagan. What they all had in common was a very positive outlook.
What could be more "positive" for a 1930's personality than the image of FDR
with his cigarette held high in the holder telling us we had nothing to fear
but fear itself? It's a bit dated today but it meant a LOT back then.
Eisenhower had led our Armed forces and our nation through the invasion of
"Fortress Europe" and the destruction of the third Reich, and he was (almost
comically, in hindsight) optimistic about our future right down to
proclaiming there was no "missile gap" in the 1950s. (His popularity faded
quickly after Sputnik was launched in '58). Probably the most memorable
thing about JFK was his speeches - always optimistic, always uplifting,
always promising a golden future for all of us through working together, in
spite of minor gaffs like the Bay of Pigs or the days we spent closer to
nuclear Armageddon than we had ever faced until then. President Reagan
didn't win the title "The Great Communicator" for his successes. Indeed, his
"Teflon" coating that kept things like Iran-Contra from destroying his image
was based on his ability to make people feel positive about what was going
on. Who else could have carried off a casual joke about starting a nuclear
war with the Soviet Union that was accidentally broadcast around the world?

That was the point ;-)

Feelings trump facts.

Beliefs trump doubts.

I doubt it that's anything new.

Anyone who would be President had best recognize it.

Oh boy. Something is really wrong with this picture.
