It's all relative. This from a friend in Fredericksburg, Iowa today:

My electricity is still an iffy thing, with it having been off a 
lot since Sunday.  Hence,  my internet is pretty unreliable too.  We're 
one of the few lucky families in the area at the moment.  A lot of 
nearby people are probably a week to ten days away from having juice.  
Counted twenty-two poles that snapped off four days ago in the four 
miles of county road east of here.  No sign of when the REC boys will be 
up this way.  

At present, we've taken in three of my daughter's teenage girlfriends 
who live out in the blacked-out part of the country so they can continue 
with school and whatnot. I'm trying to trade off my son for a couple 
more.... Other people are also packing their houses with kids and neighbors
as well.

Now another ice storm is starting to head in and the roads are drifting 
shut with cars in the ditch already this afternoon, the warning goes 
through Sunday evening.
