Ron,

We cannot go into another's mind to learn what hides there.  We can  
only stand outside and hope that they can find a way to communicate  
with us and a reason to try.  In that vein, I would guess that we  
have a vested interest in trying to assist people to be more  
comfortable as they express their opinions, so that we can learn from  
them.  And possibly there is a strong self interest in helping  
children learn communication skills, so that they will have fewer  
communication problems as they mature.

Or, in my case, as I grow older.  (Not much in the way of maturity -  
smile)
