[Grovenet] Our illustrious leader....

Watching the news, I'm convinced that the President's staff is carefully
building a case for blaming all the problems in Iraq on Iran. They are
sending in the insurgents. They are promoting unrest. They are building
nuclear bombs. And so on...
Every school kid learns the importance of "shifting the blame". And with so
many people wanting a piece of Iraq, there are a lot of candidates. But
none, I think, so clearly identified by the administration as Iran.
That way Iran is indisputably the "bad guy" we're simply victims along with
the good Iraqis and the options for the next President (or even President
Bush in the last year of his term) are wide open.

Katie, here's what I've come to realize but will never agree with or accept
about our president: he has his own agenda and once he's decided what he
wants to do, no events or people will sway him otherwise. He takes the
title "Commander in Chief" quite literally. Mistakes in Iraq? He believes
the only mistake was not sending in more troops 2+ years ago. And whereas
he states he takes full responsibility for the outcome of his decision, I
have no doubt he's already played this out like a chess match and will lay
blame on the next inhabitant of the White House in 2 years. Notice how the
president keeps saying "this will take time"? He's got the next president
all lined up in the crosshairs. All Bush has to do is say "he didn't follow
through on the excellent, detailed, winning strategy I had in place." This
will cover an immediate withdrawal or an extended stay. That's why Bush
MUST extend our stay in Iraq. It's the only way he can keep his
dictatorship going until the next in line comes in, and Bush is already
figuring the way the recent elections went it's highly probable the next
president will be a Democrat. But even if the next person is a Republican,
it's pretty clear Bush won't bat an eye cannibalizing his own party to save
what he believes is a stellar (sic) image.
As for Bush's remarks about the American people, it's been evident for years
Bush doesn't have a flaming clue or even care what the American people
really think or want. For all of Bush's visits to various parts of the US,
his people line up staunch, cult-following disciples of the president to
fawn all over him and tell him what great things he's doing for our troops
and country.
And now I'm going to tell you about a nightmare I keep having: what if Bush
decides the "war" in Iraq and the "war" on terror is so critical that he
needs to remain in office and chooses to disregard the 22nd amendment
because "we're still in a time of war and great crisis and as Commander in
Chief it's my responsibility and duty to protect the American people"?

In case you missed the Bush interview on the News Hour last night here is
one our illustrious leaders thoughts on how some people pay the ultimate
sacrifice in our war of the century and how others shouldn't be asked to pay
a penny more in taxes because they too sacrifice.....
MR. LEHRER: Let me ask you a bottom-line question, Mr. President. If it is
as important as you've just said - and you've said it many times - as all of
this is, particularly the struggle in Iraq, if it's that important to all of
us and to the future of our country, if not the world, why have you not, as
president of the United States, asked more Americans and more American
interests to sacrifice something? The people who are now sacrificing are,
you know, the volunteer military - the Army and the U.S. Marines and their
families. They're the only people who are actually sacrificing anything at
this point.
PRESIDENT BUSH: Well, you know, I think a lot of people are in this fight. I
mean, they sacrifice peace of mind when they see the terrible images of
violence on TV every night. I mean, we've got a fantastic economy here in
the United States, but yet, when you think about the psychology of the
country, it is somewhat down because of this war.
.....
So, there you have it straight from George's mouth. In the struggle between
good and evil those of us without children on the battle front do our part
by sacrificing our peace of mind if we turn on the TV. Oh and wasn't it
last week he said we should go shopping too? I guess that asking us to save
on gas is too much of a burden but asking our grandchildren to pay the
overdue bills for the billions we are spending on this war is just fluff.
I'm about ready to pull my hair out because this dude thinks it is okay to
recognize that things are going south in Iraq by the summer of '06 but he
waits until the end of December to put any thought into what Plan B would
look like. Hey dude up there in Washington - why couldn't you have worked
on Plan B in the summer instead of waiting for a few hundred more soldiers
to die because you didn't want to voters think we weren't winning in Iraq
before the election?!!!
If you want to read the whole interview with our 'illustrious leader' it is

I recommend it only if you have the stomach for it.
Thanks for letting me vent.
