[Grovenet] Measure 37 map

Your comments reinforce my thought that the commissioners need to be called
to account for their actions.
If the newspaper article is correct, there's nothing wrong with the law
spawned by Measure 37, but a lot wrong with the county commissioners. Worse,
if they reflect the will of anything like a majority of the voters, it
sounds to me like the land use laws have much stronger and more dangerous
enemies than Measure 37. Note that I said, "If the newspaper is correct..."
Maybe that's why Measure 37 passed so easily twice: it's opponents forgot
that in America the people have a say in what happens, and if they haven't
been sold on idea, they're as likely to vote against it as for it.
We've seen a lot of people arrive here over the past decade. They need to be
sold on the idea of how Oregon is different from other places and why it's
good to keep it that way, or they're likely to change things to make it like
where they came from. Like places such as San Francisco, Los Angles, and so
on.
If there's one issue that has done more, in my estimation, to convince
people that Oregon's land use laws are anti-American it has been the idea
that people's investments in their land shouldn't be carefully protected
under the law.
The arguments against Measure 37 are the sort of thinking that alienates
frugal people who believe in taking responsibility for themselves and
investing for their family's future.
I recognize we're on opposite sides of this issue, David. We both want to
see good land use planning survive. Where we differ is in what we think is
the greatest danger good land use planning and control faces here today.

Those challenges have a cost. And it cannot be recovered even if the
challenge is successful. Feel free to throw you lot and resources in
with the patriots, they could use the help.
BTW, the County Commission is a political body and it reflects the
will of the voters who elected them. My reading of Washington County
is that the county is pretty conservative, and it has never had a
strong support for land use planning. The majority of the Commission
may well be pro-development and by allowing as many of the claims as
possible, they could be following their conscience without obviously
violating state land use laws.
