I don't know how you could even begin to answer that without first asking what
it means to thrive. Does thriving mean building absurd cities in the desert
like Phoenix that require vast amounts of energy just to pump in the water
from far away places? Does thriving mean driving single-occupancy Hummers 100
miles each way to work every day? The problem is trying to satisfy our
alienation with things: it won't work, but it will sure burn up a lot of
energy. If thriving means finding satisfaction with what's available, then
your need for energy will be much less.
