[Grovenet] Ugly Politics...

I think you understand. Earmarks are lousy, in my opinion, but used by both
sides.
You asked "Gee, Ron, you must have missed the whole debate over "earmarks"
during the last session. Did you just tune in?"
I was observing how insanely stupid it was for the Democrats who tried it to
do so.
Look at it this way. There's a huge pile of dog poop sitting in the middle
of the aisle in Congress. The Republicans ignored it, carefully avoiding
stepping in it because it was too visible to the voters. They found less
controversial ways to do it. Yes, that led to a big debate over earmarking,
but they weren't threatening our troops with shortages to get their pet pork
barrel projects launched.
Then the Democrats get free reign and immediately stamp all over it shouting
"Hurray!!! It's our turn!!"
So it makes headlines across America. Democrats will support the troops only
so long as their pet projects at home get funded while the Democratic
nutcases who did that parade around with sh*t all over their feet wondering
what the odd smell is.
As usual, the party in power has a bunch of members doing everything they
can to make their part look bad.
It's a problem with both parties and it's a problem with what us voters will
put up with in Congress. But come down to the ballot, a lot of people will
just run their marker down the side of the party they have sworn allegiance
to, even if they have ***** all over their feet or they like to play with
their female interns using cigars and then lie to the investigators.
I found the story profoundly disappointing.

Not sure what you're saying here. Are you saying it's okay to slip in
earmarks
without congressional review in any bill, as long as it's not in an Iraq war
appropriations bill, but it's not okay to insert and openly debate earmarks
in the war appropriations bill? In the last session, the R's could slip in
earmarks wherever they pleased, no need to wait for the Iraq bill.
