[Grovenet] Ugly Politics...

Yep. As I said in my reply to Bud, the Republicans weren't good guys - they
just didn't flaunt their self-serving greed so openly.

My issue was that I was profoundly disappointed in the Democrats seemingly
so anxious to jump into the same nasty game, and they didn't even try to
hide it!

The D's said, "You want our troops to have ammunition or food to eat, then
sign the bill giving aid to my pet project at home!"

It doesn't matter that the President would certainly exercise his executive
powers to get the funds to the troops as needed. It was still the Democrats
who chose to hold the troops hostage to advance their pet projects at home.

Talk about "respecting the troops!"

Yeah, right!

Ron,

You may be exactly correct. There is little indication that the Iraq
War appropriation bills went to anything other than the payment for
contracts for military goods, services and supplies. So long as we
consider the money spent to support Haliburton and other military
contractors as within that scope, the R's are doing pretty well. I
did intentionally say that the payment went for the contracts (which
it does) rather than say that it went for the actual goods and
services because the reports indicate that we are paying for
contracts that are not being fulfilled.

So, the Democrats can rightly be challenged for putting public
interest projects in the Iraq War appropriations bill. The
Republicans kept the money going where it was needed, to Haliburton.

David
