Forest Grove PFLAG (Parents, Families, and Friends of Lesbians and
Gays) is presenting a special screening of, "Call Me Malcolm" on
Tuesday, March 20th at 7:00 p.m. at the Forest Grove United Church of
Christ. PFLAG invites people of all religious beliefs to this program
to raise awareness about sexual minorities in our churches and all
our communities. We will serve wonderful refreshments and the event
is free. Contact fgpflag at aol.com or call (503) 357-2442 for more
information.
"Call Me Malcolm" is the story of a transgender man and his struggle
with faith, love, and gender identity. Tara Wilkins, director of
Oregon's Community of Welcoming Congregations, will lead a discussion
following the film.
Footnote: many of you remember Todd Smidendorf who, until September
2005, served as Associate Pastor at the Forest Grove United Church of
Christ. Todd went to seminary with Malcolm Himschoot, the subject of
this film. Indeed, the documentary was shot while Todd was studying
with Malcolm to become a UCC pastor.
