I can't resist <G>. Here's a more condensed list. The link Alan provided has
even more dates!

Countries that celebrate Mother's Day
on the second Sunday in May:
Australia
Belgium
Canada
Denmark
Finland
Italy
Japan
Turkey
United States

Countries that celebrate Mother's Day on May 10:
Bahrain
Hong Kong
India
Malaysia
Mexico
Oman
Pakistan
Qatar
Saudi Arabia
Singapore
United Arab Emirates

Other Dates:
Argentina - Second Sunday in October
France - Last Sunday in May
Lebanon - First day of Spring
Norway - Second Sunday in February
South Africa - First Sunday in May
Sweden - Last Sunday in May
Yugoslavia, specifically the Serbians - Two weeks before Christmas

Then there are those who aren't too specific:

There is no fixed date for "Antrosht" or Mother's Day in Ethiopia because it
occurs whenever the rainy season ends (October-November). Girls and boys
come from all over to visit their parents, bringing the necessary
ingredients for a meat hash, which their mothers prepare. The mother and
girls anoint themselves with butter, and songs celebrating family and tribal
heroes are sung. The entire festival lasts two to three days.

-----------------------

And, of course, the British get a double dose as they celebrate both
"Mother's Day" and the more ancient "Mothering Day".

All of the above comes from one of those companies the intrepid Ms. Jarvis
battled against to keep Mother's day a non-commercial celebration between
people, not just another guilt-ridden requirement to spend money.

In early '96 while living in Ireland we (3 young lads and I) honored my
wife/their mother on the March Mother's Day of that year. Shortly
thereafter we moved back state-side and repeated the process on the U.S.
Mother's Day observance.

And every year since then my wife reminds me about the Mother's Day in
Ireland and how she should get to celebrate that day. I shudder at the
thought of her learning of all the Mother's Day worldwide dates.

Ron...
It's quite a coincidence that you bring this up today, as I was just working
on my pages for my roses, and send them later today. My roses always bloom
between Mothers Day and Memorial Day each year with out fail. Mothers Day is
on May 13 th, roughly 2 months from today. And speaking of roses ... I think
most everyone in the grove knows that Sundays are the days I take care of my
roses, of which I have more than 50 this year when I added the 4 new ones
from J&P.

And as for the subject of Mothers Day ... take a look at when and how
Mothering Day is celebrated in other parts of the world.

And I have a funny for you all to laugh at today .... I have a part time
handyman job on Scotch Church Road on a Horse Farm. Besides cleaning stalls,
mending stall doors, and various other broken things, Now I've been known
for spreading the poop far and wide, however, this is the first time in my
life I get paid for cleaning it up and spreading it, and for obvious reasons
I ain't going to tell you which one.
