[Grovenet] Select a Candidate 2008

Heh, heh... Go for it! America might become the land of the people, by the
people and for the people yet!
"Mr. Smith" might make it to Washington yet someday (ancient James Stewart
film known only to curmudgeons, James Stewart fans and students of the
silver screen, but one I think every American child ought to know).
Back in the 1960's there was serious discussion in some circles that we
should not elect Congressmen and women, and perhaps not even Senators or the
President. Instead, ordinary American citizens would be drafted by lottery
to fill those jobs for a period of 2 to 4 years. It still sounds like a good
idea to me, at least for the House. The thinking was a lot like that about
the military draft. All dangerous, onerous and unsavory jobs ought to be
shared by all, including service in Washington. The result would be a
citizenry who has some understanding of what was going on in Washington and
compassion for the poor souls serving there.
Actually I mis-spoke (or mistyped): It's TWO-thirds of the voters, more than
2 out of three, who are;
1) Fed up with the Republicans
2) Fed up with the Democrats
3) Think our economy is going to crash.
That leaves, at best, 1/3 of the voters to carry the old time political
party banners into 2008.

"The one thing angry, frustrated, worried voters are not likely to do is
make any sort of rational choice based on facts."
Hmmm . . . maybe my idea to declare as a candidate isn't so far-fetched
after all. Hmmm . . .
