You can be sure that Mitt will not listen to the Pope regarding matters of policy.

As to Kennedy, I was thinking more of his pledge that he wouldn't listen to the Pope in matters of polity!! I wonder if Mitt is willing to give the same kind of response??

And, yes, I don't think a practicing atheist could get elected, even though I would trust somebody whose worldview was consistently closer to mine, not like Mitt and Rudy who are clearly interested in power and who are willing to say anything it may take to get elected to the post de jour!! (Yes, Hillary, Barack, and John E. likely fall into that same category as well.

But, what about Right to Life backing Thompson as the one who can win?? What a strange season this has been. About as many changes as winner on Dancing with the Stars!!

That's how the Muslim states work, why not us? We will have separated church and state the day an atheist candidate winsthe Presidency. Thinking about your reference to JFK, the issue wasn't that he wasChristian, but all about whether he was the *right sort* of "Christian" tolead the USA. It seems to me the Muslims have that problem too. Ron D'Eau Claire
