Subject: [Grovenet] Recycling and Bicycling!
Two topics I am passionate about!
First, I've been wanting to post a flyer I
helped to create about
recycling in Forest Grove. I have it in a PDF
file, which I'm not
sure Grovenet will accept as an attachment. But
I also have it in a
MS Word file. So I'm going to cut and paste it
here. And if it comes
out looking wacky, people can contact me
privately looking for the
attachment in pdf or Word, I can take care of
that. I'm
warner at aracnet.com. Or someone can tell me that
it's OK to attach
files to a Grovenet posting, then I'll do that.
The idea was to have everything on ONE page so
it could be printed
out and posted. Good luck!
Forest Grove Recycling Options Clarified
Curbside: Waste Management, Forest Grove’s
hauler, recently replaced
the red recycling bins with yellow-topped
rolling carts. The
directions on the lid say you can recycle the
following plastics:
v Small necked bottles (#1-7), no lids
v Prescription bottles (#5), no lids
v Plastic tubs like margarine, yogurt and
cottage cheese
containers (often #2 or #5), lids OK
However they do not accept these items (even
though the plastics may
be numbered 1-7):
v Plastic bags
v Frozen food and take-out containers
v Cups, plates, utensils
v Plastic packaging material
v Hazardous household waste and toxic
materials - and their empty
containers - including paint, antifreeze,
corrosives, solvents,
pesticides, etc. For drop off events contact
Metro at 503-234-3000 or
http://www.metro-region.org/pssp.cfm?progservID=24
Place these items in the red bins formerly used
for curbside recycling:
v Glass, must be clean. No light bulbs,
window glass, mirrors, or
cookware
v Motor oil, must be in a container like a
one-gallon milk jug
with screw top lid
Deliver to the Forest Grove United Church of
Christ by 11 a.m. the
first Sunday of each month to be managed by the
BEST (Be Earth
Stewards Today) volunteers:
v Fluorescent bulbs of all shapes, no regular
incandescent light
bulbs
v Batteries, in a closed Ziploc baggie
v Styrofoam food containers and blocks. Cash
contributions
accepted to defray expenses
v Plastic garden pots and nursery trays,
clean
v Plastic bags, film, shrink wrap, bubble
wrap, lumber wrap and
pallet wrap, clean
v Hardcover books
v Media plastic, including CD’s, DVD’s, VHS
tapes, cassette tapes,
tape cases and jewel cases; hardboard sleeves on
CD’s
v Tennis shoes, place in a plastic bag
v Other plastics without numbers that can’t
go in the curbside
bin. Items must be clean
Recycling on your own:
v Styrofoam peanuts can be donated to any
Office Depot or UPS Store
v Carpet padding, dry and free of carpet,
tack strips, or other
carpeting waste can be taken to Far West Fibers
in Hillsboro
v Electronics and wiring can be taken to
Computer Drive Connection
in Cornelius or Far West Fibers in Hillsboro.
There may be a charge
for some items.
