[Grovenet] This just makes me ill

Yep. I don't doubt you one bit. But is it the disagreement among "experts"
or the fact you don't trust the President to make the choices that are best
for the USA in the long term that makes you ill?

For me, it's definitely the latter.

I referred to FDR the other day because he's far enough back in history to
offer some perspective. In 1940 he had a firestorm of varying opinions going
on and the popular consensus was that we needed to stay out of the conflict
while he knew we needed to be engaged in the war as soon as possible or we'd
face a terrible enemy - two of them - all alone one day.

He took the advice he thought appropriate and used it to thread his way
through the maze. He made some terrible blunders, such as believing Pearl
Harbor was safe. He made some choices that would probably have gotten him
thrown out of office had they been known at the time, such as his conviction
that we needed to get in the war before England and Russia were defeated.
But in the end we were successful.

Isn't that the difference?

FDR's choices, running against the advice of experts, turned out well.

President Bush's choices, running against the advice of experts, have been a
disaster.
