I expected that with President Nixon. That set the precedent. President Bush
may be stretching things a little farther, but does it matter once we accept
the Nixon declaration that "it's not illegal if the President does it"?

The horrendous, long term damage caused by President Ford's choice not to
prosecute President Nixon is that the American public was taught that what
Nixon said is true. The President is "above the law" which means he's above
the constitution.

It as big step toward a dictatorship.

I agree with you, not because I hold any desire for revenge against
President Bush but obeying the law and demanding obedience to all laws for
everyone, including the President, is the foundation of our republic.
Without agreement that our laws - all of our laws - will be enforced, we
have anarchy and the USA becomes a footnote in history.
