[Grovenet] Speaking Out Pays Off

It seems to me that too often those who speak out on issues feel ignored and
their efforts are met with inaction, even contempt.
What major corporation has earned that contempt more than Wal*Mart?
Yet, concentrated effort over time can yield positive results. Wal*Mart,
like all large corporations, isn't a person. It's not even "people" in the
sense of reflecting the ideals or desires of a small group. It's a
mechanism, no different from an automobile in its behavior. Once you learn
what guides it, what makes it go and how to manage it, making it go in the
right direction or do the most useful thing is a straightforward process.
The concentrated effort of a lot of people is having just such a positive
effect on Wal*Mart.

This is a huge victory for those who work for incremental change. They found
the "steering wheel and gas pedal" of Wal*Mart - public acceptance and
profit - and have caused it to turn and accelerate in a slightly different
direction.
It's not the huge victory those who lust after "shock and awe" might want
(those who feel that the only good Wal*Mart is a dead Wal*Mart). But perhaps
it's more productive for us all over time.
