Hi Grovenetters!

There have been questions about moderation policies and size limits.

The list is hosted by raindrop labs (rdrop.com). Thanks, Raindrop.
Bob Browning has been keeping our domain intact. Many thanks!

The software which runs the list is called "mailman".
http://www.gnu.org/software/mailman/index.html

There are two list administrators, myself, and Bud Bliss. We do not
moderate the list in any way; If you post something to grovenet, we
don't ever prevent it from being posted (with one exception mentioned
below). The only way for us to censor postings is to switch the list to
"emergency moderated mode", or mark a particular user as requiring
moderation. We have never done this.

However, not all mail sent to the list gets posted. Mailman uses a spam
filter. As an administrator I get to see the spam which is stopped. We
get many messages about bank accounts for large amounts of money, viagra
sales, pirated software and more. Occasionally legitimate messages are
classified as spam. I'm a little worried that simply by describing them
the spam filters will block this message. Administrators are unable to
pass message classified as spam on to the list. I even see messages
from spam filters from other isps. Someone sends a message to the list,
their ISP classifies it as spam, and then sends an administrative
message to the list instead. Our spam filters then block the
administrative message. The administrative message basically says
"check this mail to see if it is really spam. Delete it if it is,
approve it for forwarding if it is not". The overwhelming number of
these message are about real spam. Making the administrative message a
form of spam since I would rather not have received it in the first place.

(More to come)
