[Grovenet] Penalties for lying to Federal agencies.

No reason to lie to the cop's question. Perhaps, no reason to answer
it either. Ask one of our lawyers. BTW, with the accidents that
occur in our wet, slippery weather, I wonder if many of our drivers
truly have any idea what speed is reasonable and prudent. And with
the cell phone usage by drivers, I wonder how many truly are driving
unencumbered and have control over their motor vehicle at all times.
All of which, I believe, are required for the operation of a motor
vehicle on public highways.

Am I happy with the sentencing? Only one.

When there is a valid investigation into something that appears to be
a serious crime, it would seem that those who hinder the
investigation are preventing rule of law. If the law is bad, that
might be a justification, but when the law is neutral or beneficial,
hindering the enforcement of the law would appear to be worthy of
some deterent.

So, I guess, the final opinion would rest upon the importance of
intelligence gathering overseas (CIA exposure), the importance of a
level playing field in sports (steroids), and the importance of sound
money (check scheme). Marion Jones loss of her medals and prison
time may deter those who would push the limits of sports medications
and financial dealings. Scooter Libby's commuted sentence isn't
likely to deter anyone interested in furthering party politics at the
expense of the general public.
