B5 = Muppets

last updated 1996 Nov 16.

On "rec.arts.sf.tv.babylon5", JMS keeps insisting that Babylon5 is not just "Lord of the Rings with the serial numbers filed off". (If anyone has saved the exact quote, I'd appreciate you emailing it to me).

     Okay, I've just read a bunch more of these...okay, I admit it, you
got me...I'm doing Philip K. Dick right down the line...and I'm also
doing George Orwell right down the line...and I'm doing Lord of the
Rings beat for beat...and Chalker...and...and Cherryh...and I'm doing
a variation on the Bible, and King Arthur, and the history of Babylon,
and the Idylls of the King....

     What? What's that you say? You can't be doing all of these right
down the line, all at the same time? Sure I can. Because there IS no
B5. There's a blank signal that registers in your brain, triggering the
last thing you read, or the most important thing you read. It's a
carefully rigged US Government psychological warfare experiment.

     I give up.

                                                                jms

Went to Orycon. Had fun.
Didn't get enough sleep. Had 92 new messages in my email In-Box when I returned.

Met interesting people, including (a) Larry Niven and a few others I was so impressed by that I didn't know what to say; (b) fascinating people I had good discussions with, learned interesting concepts from, and/or laughed out loud with; (c) people that, if I met them in a dark alley, I would turn around and run away.

There were 2 big B5-related meetings at Orycon.
We managed to keep the person from Claris and the person from Microsoft seperated enough to avoid the annihilating the entire hotel :-).

We discovered B5 is *really* "The Muppet Show" with the serial numbers filed off :-).

Ivonova == Ms. Piggy (strong-willed, has something against eating pork)
Beaker == Lennier (looks harmless, but can survive unlikely explosions/fights, dedicated to someone who will most probably give him a suicide mission)
Gonzo and his chickens and his prehensile nose == Molari and his wives and...
JMS == Jim Henson

And, of course, invisible creatures are all *over* the place attempting to control everyone.

So who is Marcus ? Who is Kermit ? Who is Zack ? Who is G'Kar ?
Who is Bernie and Ert :-) ?

Who is the SnuffleUppagus ? Pehaps Franklin on Walkabout ?

Waldorf and Statler (the two old geezers in the front balcony box who make
snide comments about the show) = Vorlons and Shadows - but which is which?

Oh Lea....Just what kind of penance are the COJ members going to have to
endure for this thread..... If it gets any worse, you might consider
spacing.... The Maker knows that probably the only thing that will stop us.
